Last week I went to the “Operation Dream Dress” show hosted Brides Magazine. On Brides.com, hundreds of people turned in entries with the hopes of winning the grand prize- having their wedding dress design featured on the cover of Brides Magazine, and a $10,000 cash prize. Readers got to vote online to narrow the entries down to the best 10 designs. After that, a panel of judges picked just 5 designers to come and show their dress at the runway show, which was held in the Conde Nast building (so cool!). At the show, models walked the dresses down the runway and afterwords the panelists critiqued each design. The awesome panel of judges included:
- Austin Scarlett from Project Runway. YES.
- Supermodel Hilary Rhoda. So gorgeous!
- Britt Aboutaleb, Associate Editor of Fashionista.com
- Rachel Leonard, Fashion Director of Brides Magazine
- Dan Rentillo, Fashion Director of David’s Bridal
- And the host was Millie Martini Bratten, the Editor in Chief of Brides Magazine
I thought it was so cool for new designers to get compliments and criticisms from such an amazing group of industry professionals. Here’s a look at the amazing dresses and more pics from the event!

Today I met a friend for lunch. I know that she tends to like chain restaurants, and I tend to love breadsticks, so we met in the middle at Olive Garden. Yes. Out of everywhere to go in NYC, I am proud to have chosen Olive Garden (don’t hate me). We had a lot of catching up to do… actually six hours worth. Okay… I’ve been wanting this top FOREVER. It’s been at least a year that I’ve been waiting to get this… seriously. Every few months I see one of these Milly tops pop on eBay, but it’s always either too pricey or not in my size. Milly also made a few dresses in the print which also periodically showed up on eBay in a size/price combination I couldn’t work with. I couldn’t hold out any longer when this top finally showed up in my size, in auction, with no reserve price! I won it for $86. I would have liked it to be a little less, but for something that otherwise would have been about $250, I can’t complain. Plus, all the waiting I’ve done for this makes it all worth it anyway. I’m going to make excuses to go out everywhere just to parade around in my new top!

Moved to NYC, check. Got a job and an apartment in 6 days, check. Realized I had done it all too quickly, and made the tough choice to quit the job, check. Just sat down yesterday to breathe for the first time in more than 2 weeks… and saw the Star Trek movie last night, check. You should go see it too, it’s perfection. The only thing I sadly didn’t squeeze in recently was these great eBay auctions, too lovely for me not to post. I’m dubbing this “Ebay Item of the Month”. I know we’re still early in the month, but this will be very hard to top- a Prada chain mail top. This is so runway! The auction started at $0.99 and ended at $275.99 and this top is worth every penny of that and so much more. I don’t even want to guess what the original retail price was. I wish this were mine, but want to say major congrats to whoever won this piece of art! This sort of thing probaly won’t show up again for a long time.
This Prada dress wins a close 2nd place… retailing for a super-heftly $3315, this to-die-for piece sold for $769. I swear if I EVER see this dress again in my size I will have to at least put in a bid.

This has got to be one of the best YSL necklaces I’ve ever seen. The justification is easy: it’s a statement-maker, and most importantly you can wear it TWO ways. The necklace can be worn on its own, or attached to a black, velvet underlay that completely transforms it. It’s currently $330 with 6 days left, but if there is anybody reading this who can afford to dive in on this auction, I say go for it! The couture designs were created by eight of today’s hottest designers, including Versace, Stella McCartney, Derek Lam, Alexander Wang, Bottega Veneta, Rodarte, Rogan and Ann Demuelemeester.
These exclusive designs, on window display now at Barney’s New York (photos below), will be auctioned off on eBay starting April 30. Bidding starts at 99 cents and all proceeds benefit Oceana, the largest international organization focused 100 percent on ocean conservation.

So, I am in the process of packing up to move to NYC. I have been scrambling around in mounds of clothing and boxes, trying to get it all together. When it’s all done, I will have had a total of 10 days to pack. Is that enough time or am I just inefficient? My real problem is the “junk drawer”… I have 4 of those. I am vowing to get more organized, so I want to sort out all the junk and pack it up in a very organized way. In the midst of that lofty goal, I missed quite a few outstanding eBay auctions. I am recovering.
A stunning Christian Dior Dress ended at $172. Whoever one this dream dress, major congrats!
I aspire to one day have a dress by Leonard of Paris. These sold for $224 and $450 respectively.

Among the best vintage tie-dye dresses I’ve seen, this one with unique beading at the straps ended at $87.
I guess I can’t be surprised many other people notice the undeniable perfect of this vintage Trifari pearl and turquoise necklace. It ended at $101, much higher than I anticipated.
I’ve been hoping to grab something from Haute Hippie for a while. This studded pink dress went out of budget anyway at $132.

Rick Owens Jacket. This ended at $356. Yeah, everything Rick Owens ends steep, but it’s too cool not to post.
